RESOLUTIONS 9. Resolution relative to the services of Governor Carrol, during the late war. Whereas, WILLIAM CARROL, Governor of Tennessee, is a native of the state of Pennsylvania, from which he emigrated in the year 1810, and was shortly afterwards called to the command of the Nashville uniform volunteers, who tendered their services to the nation, which was promptly accepted at the commencement of the late war; and by force of his great military talents has passed through the various grades of preferment till he rose to the important command of the second division of Tennesseans, amounting to 3000 men, with whom he marched, in obedience to the orders of the executive of that state, to aid in protecting New Orleans; arrived at the place of destination, a distance of 1300 miles, in 22 days; this manifesting his real zeal and devotion in the cause of his country; and whereas, he has on all occasions been found in the midst of danger in the several engagements in which his valor and bravery called him, whether contending with the ferocious Indians of the Creek nation, or the boasted invincibles of Europe; and whereas, the courage, science, and untiring activity which is displayed in an eminent degree while he aided his companions in arms in saving New Orleans from the dangers threatened by the victory of a powerful and daring foe, have commanded the respect and admiration of all who have read the history of that memorable battle. Therefore, the governor of Pa. is requested to communicate to governor Carrol the high and sincere regard the representatives of his native state entertain towards him for his distinguished military talents, sure indications of a powerful mind, and his unwavering devotion to his beloved country, which he has so conspicuously evinced from his early life up to the present hour. 11 Apr 1827.
