He was a native of Lancaster County, and was for over fifty years a resident of Adams County. He lived and reared his family on the old homestead in Union Township, where his father, Joseph, settled. He married Catherine S. Schriver, a daughter of John Schriver, and by this union the following named children were born: Isabella, who married W. E. Krebbs, of Littlestown; Rev. W. D., of Stoyestown, Penn., Joseph H., an attorney at law, Littlestown; James A., of Littlestown; Emma E., married to Isaac Loucks, of Hanover; Anna E., who married George B. Myers, of Littlestown, and Enoch S., of New Oxford, this county.
