ORIGINAL WARRANTS ­ YORK COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA Warrant No. 2 ­ 21st November 1749; 50 acres to Daniel Hammond By the Proprietaries. Whereas Daniel Hammond of the County of York hath requested that we grant him to take up fifty acres of land adjoining the land of John Moreton near Popum Creek at Great Conewago in the said County of York. For which he agrees to pay to our Use at the rate of fifteen pounds, ten shillings, current money of this Province, for one hundred acres and the yearly quit-rent of one halfpenny sterling for every acre thereof. These are therefore to authorize and require you to survey or cause to be surveyed unto the said Daniel Hammond, the place aforesaid, according to the methods of townships appointed, the said quantity of fifty acres, if not already surveyed or appropriated. And make return thereof into the Secretaries Office, in order for further confirmation, for which this shall be your sufficient Warrant; which survey in case the said Daniel Hammond fulfills the above agreement within six months from the date hereof, shall be valid, otherwise void. Given under my hand and seal of the land office, by virtue of certain powers from the said Proprietaries, at Philadelphia, this twenty-first day of November, Anno Domini, 1749. To Nicholas Scull, Surveyor General. James Hamilton ORIGINAL WARRANTS ­ YORK COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA Warrant No. 165 ­ 25th September 1770; 150 acres to James Hammond By the Proprietaries. Whereas James Hammond of the County of York hath requested that we allow him to take up one hundred and fifty acres of land joining John Maxwell, James Luck & the widow Mains, including his improvements in Tyrone Township in the said County. (Provided the same land does not lie in, or interfere with, the Manor of Mauke or any other of our approved tracts.) For which he agrees to pay to our Use, within the term of six months from the date hereon, at the rate of fifteen pounds, ten shillings, current money of this Province, for every hundred acres. And also to pay to us, our heirs and assigns forever, the yearly quit-rent of one halfpenny sterling for every acre thereof. Interest and quit-rent to commence from the 1st of March 1750. These are therefore to authorize and require you to survey or cause to be surveyed unto the said James Hammond, at the place aforesaid, according to the method of townships appointed, the said quantity of one hundred & fifty acres, if not already surveyed or appropriated. And make return thereof into the Secretaries Office, in order for confirmation, for which this shall be your sufficient Warrant; which warrant and survey, in case the said James Hammond fulfills the above agreement within six months from the date hereof, shall be valid, otherwise void. To John Lukens, Surveyor General. John Penn ORIGINAL WARRANTS ­ YORK COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA Warrant No. 242 ­ 10th July 1786; 110 acres to John Hammond The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, ss. Whereas John Hammon of the County of York hath requested to take up one hundred and ten acres of land including an improvement adjoining the land of Thomas Balding, William Griffith, John Lawrence, and others in Manallen Township in the said County of York. (Provided the land is not within the last purchase made of the Indians.) For which he agrees to pay, immediately, into the Office of the Receiver General, for the use of this State, at the rate of ten pounds per hundred acres, in gold, silver, paper money of this State, or certificates; agreeable to an act of Assembly passed the first day of April 1784. Interest to commence from the first day of March 1742. These are, therefore, to authorize and require you to survey or cause to be surveyed unto the said John Hammond, at the place aforesaid, according to the method of townships appointed, the said quantity of acres, if not already surveyed or appropriated. And to make return thereof in the Secretaries Office, in order for further confirmation, for which this shall be your Warrant. In Witness whereof the Honorable Charles Biddle, Esquire, President of the Supreme Executive Council, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the less Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed, the tenth day of July in the year 1786.
