Soon after retiring in the evening she complained of feeling ill and requested some medicine but before it could be obtained her spirit was wafted into the realms of everlasting bliss. The deceased was for many years a member of the Lutheran Church and up to the time of her death adorned her profession by a humble Christian life. She now rests in peace. Died, at Hampton on the 6th December, Anna Eliza, an affectionate daughter of William and Catharine Fickes, 12 years, 6 months, 27 days. Died, on the 6th inst., William Richard, son of Robert Tate of this place, 1 years, 9(?) months, 1 day Died, at Menallen Twp., on the 19th ult., John Adams, aged 77 years, 9(?) months, 15 days. On Thursday last, Thomas Himes, of the vicinity of Shippensburg, was returning from that place to his home on foot on the railroad when he met a train of broken cars in a narrow cut and to escape the train to get a foot hold on the side of the cut but could not succeed as it was rocky. The conductor saw him but too late to check his speed. He escaped all the cars but the last which struck him and he fell under the wheels and was killed instantly his head being nearly separated from his body. He is a son-in-law of William D. Himes, Esq., of New Oxford and leaves a young wife. (Transcriber’s note, it definitely said he was a “son-in-law”, not son, but does not make much sense unless he married a cousin.) Feb. 5, 1862 We learn with regret that Mrs. Reever, wife of Abraham Reever, Esq., of Mt. Pleasant Twp., died very suddenly Thursday morning last. It seems she awoke at an early hour and requested her husband to get up and start the fire. He went down to the lower story when she was heard by another member of the family in an adjoining room to leave her bed and fall. She was found dying and in a few minutes she died. Smith, aged 69 years, 8 months, 26(?) days. He was a kind and affectionate husband and father, and much esteemed by his neighbors and numerous friends for his uprightness and consistency. During his last sufferings which were great, he exhibited the spirit of the Master. As his neighbor, who was with him during much of his illness said, “He seemed to lean entirely upon the strong arm of Jesus”. April 15, 1862 We learn with regret that Mrs. Lydia Yeatts, residing near Heidlersburg, departed this life very suddenly on Thursday last. She arose in the morning in her usual health but after attending to some household duties, she seated herself in a chair and complained of being ill. She requested camphor which her husband gave her—but life was already ebbing and upon being removed to bed she breathed her last in a few minutes. Death was doubtless caused by heart trouble. Died, on Sunday, 11th May, in De Witt Co., Ill., Wm., son of J.J. Baldwin, Esq., formerly of this county, aged about 9. C. Kapp, residing near Mechanicsville, (Bragtown), in Latimore Twp., committed suicide by hanging himself with a chain in his barn on the 30th ult. He had been laboring under an aberration of the mind for upwards of a year. He was an inmate of the asylum at Harrisburg for a short time and soon after he was brought home, he committed the sad act. He had been missed by his family only ten or fifteen minutes when he was found a corpse. He was a man highly esteemed in the community in which he resided for his integrity and social disposition. He was 31(?) years, 8 months, 2 days of age. June 17, 1862 Miss H.E. Sears, M.D., who formerly taught school in this place, and afterwards studied and practiced medicine among her own sex at Carlisle, Harrisburg and other towns with great success for several years, died at Hollidaysburg on the 6th.
