Died, on Sunday morning of consumption, Alexius Robinson, aged about 25(?).  The 
deceased is a well known and respected citizen of Oxford Twp.  He leaves a wife and 
family and many friends to mourn his loss.

Died, on the 26th December last, in Franklin Twp., Nicholas Sterner, aged 33 years, 10 
months, 11 days.

Died, on the 2nd inst., in Franklin Twp., Amos Sterner, son of Nicholas Sterner—just one 
week elapsed between the death of the father and son—aged 16 years, 4 months.

Died, yesterday morning at Reading, Pa., Mrs. Henrietta, wife of Dr. D.A. Ulrich, and 
sister-in-law to Dr. Baugher of this place, aged about 42.

Died, on the 10th ult., near Lexington, Kentucky, Jacob Hughes Sheffer, 21 years, son of J. 
Howard Sheffer, Esq., and grandson of Dr. Daniel Sheffer, all of York Springs, Pa.  The 
deceased was a young man of great promise, possessing a highly cultivated mind, agreeable 
manners, and an amiable disposition.  That fell destroyer, consumption, had marked him for 
its victim, and in the spring time of life he was cut down to wither and die.  During the past 
summer he had undertaken to visit is grandparents in this county for the benefit of his 
health and during his brief sojourn here made many friends by his social manners and 
genial disposition.  But disease had taken a strong hold upon his system and was rapidly 
accomplishing its work upon his feeble frame.  He returned home but to take a journey to a 
better land.

remains were placed in the family vault at Littlestown on Monday.

Died, on Tuesday, near this place, Christian J. Cashman, aged about 27.

Died, on the 7th inst., at Menallen Twp., Sarah Elizabeth, daughter of John and Mary 
Weigle, aged 20 years, 7 months, 3 days.

Died, at Shippinsburg, on the 8th inst., Mrs. Jane Fuller, widow of John L. Fuller, Esq., 
formerly of Gettysburg, aged 56.

Died, on the 9th inst., at Abbotstown, Amelia, daughter of John and Harriett Ann Motter(?), 
aged 3 years, 3 months, 6(?) days.  The mother of this child having occasion to visit a near 
neighbor on business, left her child at home for a short time.  During her absence it is 
supposed, the deceased, while playing, set fire to her clothing and before aid could be 
rendered was shockingly burned.  Notwithstanding every effort which was employed by the 
doctor and friends to relieve the little sufferer, death speedily terminated her existence.

Died, on Thursday last in this borough, Amos, son of Henry (last name illegible, three 
letters), aged 5 years, 3 months, 20 days.

Died, on the 23rd Jan., of diphtheria, Jane Anne, only surviving daughter of Michael and 
Elizabeth Fissel of this county, in the 15th year of her age.  The death of this young lady 
deserves more than the above brief announcement.  From her earliest childhood she 
abstained from those follies that levity of conduct to which so many of our young people 
especially in these days when parental discipline has become a (illegible word.)  She had 
grown up almost to a woman’s estate in modest sobriety and faith, discharging the duties of 
a daughter and sister.  But it was not until her afflictions that it pleased God to give her a 
deep view of the importance of eternal things.  She suffered a severe attack of the same 
disease in October last from which she barely escaped with her life.  This circumstance, 
probably, was made instrumental in preparing her during her second illness in January to 
cast herself in humble  but all confident faith upon the great Redeemer of sinners for 
acceptance and salvation.  We well remember to have seen her one evening in the course of 
her sickness when suffocation was imminent and when we all expected her to expire before 
morning; enjoying that freedom from alarm and tranquility which one agency alone can 
inspire.  Notwithstanding her extreme illness she at once time had so far recovered as to be 
able to sit up but this amendment was speedily followed by relapse and from this moment 
she rapidly sank through exhaustion.  There was no murmur, however, at this sad 
disappointment of earthly hopes but she tranquilly breathed her spirit life into the hands of 
her faithful Redeemer. 

J. Calvin Gover, Esq., formerly of Franklin Twp., in this county has been elected high 
sheriff of Knox Co., Illinois.

apoplexy while engaged in his work in the field.  He was seen at work by some of his 
neighbors about twenty minutes before he was found a corpse.  His age was about 63.

Died, on the 4th inst., George Trostle, Sr., of Freedom Twp.,  well known as one of our 
most active and upright citizens, aged 67(?) 87(?) years, 4 months, 16(?) days.  He was a 
good man, says a friend, and full of the Holy Ghost.  He leaves eight children (of 13 born), 
63(?) grandchildren and 58 great great grandchildren.  He was born in Berks Co., Pa.  Our 
aged friend was a man of very strong, well balanced mind and ever active in church and 
good works and goes down to the grave full of years, respected by all who knew him.

Died, in Cumberland Twp., 7th May, John Philip Pfeffer, aged 77 years, 11 months, 17 
days.

Died, on the 26th May, at the residence of her father John Keller(?) in Hamiltonban Twp., 
Mrs. Sarah, wife of David Booth, aged 35 years, 6 months, 23(?) 29(?) days.

Died, on Saturday last, Henry Warner or Worner of Reading Twp., aged (illegible, maybe 
59?)

Died, on Monday week Mrs. Elizabeth Matilda, wife of George Settle, of Franklin Twp., 
aged 26 years, 3 months, and 11 days.

Died, on the 26th ult., at her residence in Littlestown, Catharine wife of Benjamin Lundis, 
aged 52 years, 22 days.

Died, on the 31st ult., in this place, Theodore W. Beams, 18 years, 2 months, 8 days.

Died, on the 18th inst., Emmanuel Pitzer, of Cumberland Twp., at the age of 76(?) years, 
6(?) months, 20 days.

Died, on the 11th isn’t., at Hartford City, Blackford Co., Indiana, Mrs. Hannah E. Troxel, 
wife of Joshua(?) A. Troxel, after a lingering illness of two months, aged about 27.  A 
husband and four children are left to mourn their sad bereavement.

Died, on the 18th (?) inst., Mrs. Margaret M., wife of peter Boblitz(?), of Arendtsville, and 
daughter of Wm. H. Lott(?), aged 36(?) years, 6 months, 15(?) days.
