A daughter of John Yocohy(?), 11 years, living near Kohler’s Mill in the neighborhood of New Oxford, was accidentally drowned in the mill dam on Saturday week. She had gone to the dam for water and it is supposed accidentally fell in. Life was not entirely extinct when she was taken out but soon after she was carried to the house she died. On Thursday last, Isaac Brinkerhoff, an aged and highly esteemed citizen of Straban Twp., met a sudden and melancholy death. He had gone to the woods with one horse wagon to take home a load of wood. Several hour after, the hours returned to the house with the loaded wagon but without Mr. Brinkerhoff. Search was at once made and he was found within 200 yards of his home lying in the lane in an insensible condition. He was immediately carried to the house but he breathed his last soon after. It is though he was sitting on top of the wood and in passing under a tree a limb took him off; and probably stunned him, causing him to fall to the ground upon his head, thus producing the fatal injury. May he rest in peace. Compiler Transcribed by Christine Spencer, May, 2008
