Houck, wife of Mr. J. Howard Houck, of Butler township, breathed her last. Mrs. Houck was the daughter of Mr. Jacob Raffensberger, deceased, and was born near Fairfield April 19, 1848. After a few years her parents moved to the neighborhood of Bender's church. She connected herself with the Reformed church under the pastorate of Rev. Jacob Ziegler and remained in that church until after her marriage to Mr. Houck which took place July 19th, 1868, when she joined the Lutheran church with her husband. She was a faithful and consistent member until she died. In her sickness she gave the highest testimony of the faith within her. The last words she spoke to her sister, Mrs. John Boyer, shortly before she expired was "I am going home." In her death the family loses a loving mother, her husband a dutiful wife and her brothers and sisters an affectionate sister, and this community and the church a useful woman. Up to the time of her illness she led the choir at Bender's church and was a faithful teacher of the Sunday School. The interment took place at Bender's Church cemetery and the large number of people assembled attested the love and esteem in which she was held. She leaves a husband and five children to mourn their loss. Her age was 41 years, 4 months and 15 days. Her influence for the good will be felt in this neighborhood long after her remains have joined their kindred dust. Mrs. Francis, of Easton, Pa., is here on a visit to her mother, Mrs. John Houck; Mr. Edward Houck, of Easton, spent the holidays with his mother; Mr. George and Jacob Slaybaugh, of Ohio, are visiting their father, Mr. W.
