Miss Eula Beitman and brother Tom, formerly of this place, but now of Delta, York county, are here spending some weeks with their sister, Mrs. Parker H. Myers and family, and also other relatives and old acquaintances. Mr. B. W. Zeigler, Miss Emily Moorhead and Miss Ruth Markland are all on the sick list, but we are glad to say that they are all on a fair way to recovery. Mrs. Joseph Myers and daughter Lottie, of Rippon, W. Va., have left for home after a week’s visit with their friends Mrs. Philip Kuntz and family. On Tuesday of last week while Mrs. A. W. Coulson, of Clear Springs, was visiting at the residence of her father, Mr. Geo. A. Wolf, of Latimore township, she met with what might have been a serious accident. She was on a tree picking cherries about thirty feet from the ground, when she suddenly became ill and finally unconscious, resulting in a fall, but fortunately enough she was caught in the forks of the tree not far distant from where she was picking. Mr. Geo. A. Wolf, her father, after a brief span of time called to her from a distance, and on receiving no answer, went to the tree and found her in the dangerous position, and by the assistance of Messrs. Wm. Trump and Geo. O. Trostle, delivered her safely from the tree. Mr. Wm. Brough, of Latimore township, while helping at the large barn raising on Monday at Mr. Lewis Bushey’s, near Deardorff’s mill, had his arm broken just below the elbow by the falling of a small piece of lumber. Items from Fairfield – Fairfield, June 22 – Mr. Adam Diehl, of York, is visiting his brother, Mr. Peter Diehl, and nephew, Mr. John Diehl, also Mr. R. S. Eiker and wife. Mr. R. S. Eiker made a purchased of nine acres and one hundred and forty perches of choice mountain land on private terms. It is said that the timber will cut over three thousand rails to the acre, and the land easy of access. A large black snake crawled into Mr. C. P. Bream’s yard the other day. It was within a few feet of the house when seen by Mrs. Bream, who naturally became frightened. Miss Gertie Bream, who was close at hand killed the reptile with a hoe. It measured 5 feet, 1 inch. We have some plucky young ladies in this section of country. Mrs. Jacob Eiker and Mrs. Isaac C. Eiker, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Sites of Maryland. Mr. John Eiker, Sr., and Mrs. Geo. Boyd and two sons, are visiting among friends in Adams Co. Mr. John Musselman and F. Shully made a business trip to Bendersville one day last week. Farmers in this section are making hay this week. Grain is coloring very fast; harvest will soon be here; corn is short for the time of year, but is growing rapidly. J. H. Cunningham, who works at Mount Union, is home on a visit to his family at that place. Hampton Items – Hampton, June 22 – Mr. Wierman and family, of near York Springs, were the guests of Mrs. C. Myers on Sunday. Mr. Clinton Fickes, who is clerking in Sheely’s store in New Oxford, was home on a visit over Sunday. Miss Gertie Wortz, of Hanover, is visiting friends here. Mr. Mervin Bream and wife, and Mr. Harry March and lady friend, of near New chester, were the guests of Mr. G. B. March and family on Sunday. Mrs. Lemuel Myers has in her possession a cactus stalk with thirteen flowers and thirty-three buds. Who can beat it? Mr. Ephraim Bream and wife, of near York Springs, were the guests of Mr. E. J. Hoffman and family on Monday. Mrs. R. K. Sipe was visiting friends in Dover last week. Mrs. Dr. Yeagy, of Dillsburg, is home on a visit. Mr. Tilden Myers, who is clerking in Mr. Slaybaugh’s store in Biglerville, was home on a visit over Sunday, accompanied by his lady friend. Mr. Hartzell and family, of Pine Run, were guests of the Misses Haines’ on Sunday. Mrs. Miller, of Orrtanna, was visiting friends here last week. Mrs. Montour, of Baltimore, is the guest of her mother, Mrs. Starry. Five Points Items – Bowlder, June 22 – Master James Sherfy, of York, is visiting his uncle, James B. Taylor and family. Mr. Levi Raffensperger spent several days last week visiting friends in Cumberland county. Miss Florence Bricker, of York, visited Misses Ella and Dora Raffensperger on Saturday. Mrs. Emma Pittenturf and children spent Saturday and Sunday with friends at Mechanicsburg. Mr. Stauffer, of East Berlin, spent part of last were here with his son, Henry Stauffer, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. George Weaner, of Bendersville, visited friends here Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Philip Slagle, of Hampton, spent Saturday with Amos Mummert and wife. Mr. Charles Stauffer has gone to York county where he will remain during the summer.
