Neely, of York, is home on a short visit. Mrs. Rev. Mackley returned home last week from her visit to Maytown. Miss Hettie Hicks, of Maytown, is visiting at Rev. J. F. Mackley’s. Mrs. Jacob Kittinger, of near town, gave a lawn party last Thursday evening, in honor of her daughters, Zoe and Bessie, at which were the following guests: Misses Dora Harbold and Clara Musselman, Messrs. Norman Walter, John and William Musselman, Harry and Marshall Brown and Geo. Neely, of Fairfield; Miss Carrie Kuglar, of Kansas; Miss Laura Creegar, of Baltimore, and T. G. Luttrell of New York. Rev. Perl Shriver and bride, nee Amanda Bennett, of Seven Stars, spent Sunday at Samuel Firor’s. Robert Cunningham, of Lafayette College, is home on his summer vacation. The Catholics of this place will hold their annual pic-nic in Zac. Sander’s Grove on Saturday, August 3rd. Everyone is cordially invited to join them in spending a pleasant day and evening. Miss Margaret Peters, of Baltimore, is home on a visit to her father, John F. Peters. FROM BUCHANAN VALLEY July 22 – Miss Mary Kuhn, of York, is visiting friends and relatives in the Valley. Rev. F. C. Noel, of Lewistown, former pastor Corpus Christi Church, Chambersburg, and Missions, visited in the Valley the past week. Miss Josephine Kimple, of Gettysburg, is visiting at her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Kimple. The farmers are hauling in their wheat. The continued heavy rains interfered with the hauling, and some of it had already sprouted. The vesper services of St. Ignatius church will be held at 3 o’clock, p.m. FROM ARENDTSVILLE July 22 – Rev. M. M. Noacher will hold his Harvest Home service on Sunday morning, August 4th. John March reports rye 7˝ ft. long and timothy 6ft. 2 in. Henry Deardorff removed a river pine shingle roof from the barn on his farm that his father had put on 63 years ago. The blackberries and huckleberries are an abundant crop in this locality, and are selling at 5c per quart in this place. A. I. Weidner is building an addition to his barn. Master George E. Kane, son of J. A. Kane, aged 10 years, while heaping hay killed a black snake that measured 6 ft. 5 in., and a copperhead 3 ft. 3 in. FROM BENDERSVILLE July 22 – Jacob Howard, of Harrisburg, spent Sunday with his daughter, Mrs. William Yeatts. Morris Wahley and wife, of Tower City, are visiting friends at this place. The Junior Epworth League will hold a pic-nic at Table Rock on Wednesday of this week. S. E. Wampler, Esq., and wife, are visiting friends at Dillsburg. Geo. Mummert and wife are visiting in Hanover. Miss Mamie Porter, of Carlisle, spent a few days with her parents last week. Miss Irene Wolf and Lizzie Murtorff, of Alga, spent Saturday with Miss Susan Barnhart on R. R. street.
