Eichelberger, as administratrix of the estate of Capt. A. W. Eichelberger, deceased, sold at public sale the following real estate: No. 1 – The Eichelberger farm in Heidelberg township, York county, along the York Road, 204 acres and 13 perches, and No. 3 a tract of land adjoining containing 3 acres and 105 perches, to John M. Frey, for %55.50 an acre. No. 2 – A tract of land also adjoining No. 1, of 1 acre and 29 perches, with house and other buildings, to C. J. Dellone for $185. No. 4 – A limestone farm in Oxford township, Adams county, containing 200 acres and 41 perches, to John E. Krug for $62 per acre. No. 5 – A farm in Oxford township, Adams county, of 163 acres and 70 perches, to John Flemming, at $35 per acre. No. 6 – A 4-story brick roller mill, together with 20 acres and 48 perches of land in Oxford and Mountpleasant townships, Adams county, and a dwelling house and other buildings, to C. J. Dellone for $3,040. No. 7 – A farm in Mountpleasant township, Adams county, adjoining No. 6, containing 185 acres and 33 perches with dwelling and other improvements to W. A. Himes for $38.50 per acre. Robert E. Wible, Esq., and F. M. Bortner, Esq., of York, have purchased from Martin Winter, the lot on Chambersburg street, next to the Rowe grocery, for $420. It is believed the transfer of the Caledonia tract of 12,800 acres of land from the Caledonia Company to the State for a forestry reservation will be accomplished in a short time. There was some dispute as to the number of acres and this delayed the purchase. The State will pay $3 an acre for the land. ARENDTSVILLE The Christmas services held in the two churches in this place were largely attended and the programs well rendered. F. W. Orner killed two hogs that dressed 800 pounds and A. J. Bucher two that weighed 816 pounds. Hiram C. Lady, wife and two children, spent Christmas at Harrisburg at the home of A. H. Lady. Dr. Curtis Sheely and John C. Orr, of Harrisburg; Ralph Smelsor, of Lancaster; Arby Thomas, of New York City and Wm. Bankert, of New Cumberland, were recent visitors here. Mrs. Magdalen Fleck sold 13 acres of farm land near Beechersville to Levi Cromer, for $590.00. Cury Beamer, of Menallen township, caught 27 raccoons this season. He was offered $40. for his coon dog. George Culp shot 84 rabbits and 17 pheasants, Harry E. Lower 41 rabbits and three of Harry Raffensperger’s boys shot 91 rabbits during the hunting season. Chas. Cashman and wife, of Harrisburg, were recent visitors among friends here. Edgar Smelser, of Altoona; Lee and Roland Minter, of Newark, N. J., are home for the holidays. Dr. S. E. Lower spent last week with friends in Pittsburg and Altoona. Recently a sneak thief stole Reuben Minter’s fat goose that he expected to have for a Christmas roast. Miss Nora Warren, of this place has taken charge of the Fairfield school, the former teacher having resigned. BARLOW Owing to the inclement weather the attendance was not as large as usual at the Christmas execises at Mt. Joy church, Christmas eve. The exercises were excellent. The pastor Rev. W. G. Minnick received a purse of Money containing, $3, from the infant School of which he and his sister are teachers. It was presented by John W. Benner, Superintendent. The pastor, himself, was not forgotten. The four Deacons of the church, raised a purse of money and presented an overcoat, with a letter containing $1.60. It was presented by S. S. Scott assistant Superintendent and Emory Coushun. F. S. Cromer and your Correspondent raised a purse of money for Miss Lillie Schwartz, the organist, $5.20, as a token of the appreciation of her earnest work in the church. The money was presented to the Organist by F. S. Cromer. The entire service was enjoyed by all present. Spangler’s School of Mountjoy township presented to their teacher Geo. P. Black, on Wednesday a Brussells rug, and he in return treated the scholars to candy. Miss Daisy Rudisill, who has been Clerking in Philadelphia has returned to the city again. John W. Black, teacher of Horner’s School, Mountjoy township, treated the scholars to candy and in return the scholars gave to the teacher a Chenille table cover. There will be Communion on Jan. 4, at Mt. Joy church, at 10 o’clock. Services the Saturday previous at 2 o’clock. William H. Cromer and wife, of this place, paid their respects on Saturday last to their daughter Mrs. Jesse Clapsadle, of Hanover. The newly elected Sheriff will move to Gettysburg, next Thursday, from this place. A. M. Waybright, of Freedom township, lost a valuable mule recently. Jonathan L. Allison, of Mountjoy township has improved his property with a large hog pen. No wonder that john W. Keefauver, of Muntjoy township steps around so big and looks so well pleased. It is a girl. The patrons of Centennial Hall school, Cumberland township, have put a first- class bell on the school house through the efforts of John W. Maring and Irvin Black. Miss Daisy Rudisill, of Philadelphia, made a brief visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Worley Rudisill, of this place. BUCHANAN VALLEY Visitors to their homes and friends in the valley over Christmas were: Harry Taylor, Leo Dillon, Bernard McKenrick and sister, Rebecca, John Kuhn, Emory Brady, Simon Wolf, Mrs. Susan and Laura McKenrick. We had a “white Christmas” in the mountains but the sleighing was poor. The weather has been very cold indeed for the past week. There was High Mass in St. Ignatius Church on Christmas morning at 5 o’clock followed by a Low Mass at 6, and High Mass at 10 o’clock. A choir of the following children sang at the 6 o’clock Mass: Ruth, Ethel, Evelyn and Genevieve Cole, Loretta Kimple, Virgie Irwin, Mary McKenrick, Nora Kimple, Raymond Cole, Albert Kimple, Willie Irwin, Roy Cole, Chas. McKenrick and Bertha McKenrick. They sang “What a Lovely Infant” and “Bethlehem Babe” very sweetly. Miss Edith Cole presiding at the organ. Miss Mary Green, a trained nurse from Philadelphia, visited at Albert Cole’s recently. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Strasbaugh have left for Altoona, where they will make their future home. Bernard Steinberger will reside with his grandmother and grandfather, Mr. and Mrs. John C. Steinberger. CASHTOWN Anthony Zollinger sold a tract of 3 acres and 43 perches of cleared land near Mrs. Swain’s, along the new road in Buchanan Valley to John H. Musser on private terms. Peter Kump killed a red fox recently. Geo. J. Martz killed two hogs that weighted 387 and 414 lbs respectively, John C. Stover one 450 lbs. Mrs. Geo. Sheely, aged 83 years, while trying to go to her stable one day recently fell on the ice and was unable to get up but managed to crawl back to the house. She sustained no serious injury. William Rife, of Cashtown, Teacher of Van Dyke’s school has resigned his school and accepted a clerkship in one of the offices of the Western Maryland R. R., in Hanover. BENDERSVILLE Layton Taylor, of Columbia, is home during the holidays. D. F. Delap, of Lakewood, N. J. is home for a week. Carl Brame, Edw. Naylor and John Deardorff, of Harrisburg, are home for a short time. Oscar Carson and wife, of Harrisburg, are spending some time with his parents. Charles Myers and family, of Carlisle, spent Christmas with his mother on Main Street. Harry Kirchoff, of Pittsburg, gave an excellent entertainment to the school and patrons of Oak Grove school on last Friday afternoon with a fine new gramiphone. Mr. Kirchoff is visiting the family of G. J. Baish. Oscas Baish, of Pittsburg, and brother James, of Altoona, are spending the holiday vacation with their parents. George Sandgran and wife, of Cap May, N. J., are visiting his wife’s mother, Mrs. Raffensparger. Harry Raffensparger and wife, of Philadelphia, are home for a short time. IRON SPRINGS Harry Sanders and wife, of Chambersburg, are the guests of A. L. Sanders and family at this time. Mrs. Peter Sanders and son, of near Emmitsburg, Md., were visiting relatives in this locality recently. Mrs. Wm. Duttera of Gettysburg was the recent guest of Mrs. J. E. Kissinger. Frank Watson and Mr. J. E. Kissinger made a business trip to Gettysburg, Saturday. Rev. D. Barnhart was the guest of Wilson Hummelbaugh and family on Sunday. Miss Gertie Gallagher visited the family of Mr. Ivan Musselman, Thursday aweek. There was a Christmas entertainment in the M. E. Church at Orrtanna on Wednesday evening, the 24th, Rev. Buyers pastor. Mr. Edward Reese, of this place, has been granted an increase of pension from $12 to $17 per month. NEW CHESTER Ray Shenk has returned from a visit to friends in York. Emory Creager came up from Philadelphia to spend Christmas with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Creager. Mr. Ginck left Saturday for Washington, D. C., after spending Christmas with his family. Miss Mame Dennis has returned home from Orwigsburg, Schuylkill county, and will remain until Jan. 10, when she will again return. David M. Cashman and Hannah E. Mummert were married by Rev. H. W. Bender at the Lutheran parsonage on the evening of Dec. 23. John Pittentuf, of Heidlersburg, while at work in this place last Saturday was taken sick and is at present confined to the house at his own home. There is talk of a new creamery in this place.
