The lad was playing about the barn and it was thought the snake was disturbed, while secreted in a hole in a log into which the boy thrust his hand. The reptile sunk its fangs into a finger of the boy’s right hand. Calls were sent by phone to several local doctors but they were either busy or out of the office. Finally Dr. Seaks of New Oxford was secured, who promptly cauterized the mound. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, August 5, 1916
