Smeach on Monday arrested Allen Sunday, of Berwick township, Adams county, on a warrant issued by Squire I. R. Witmer, on oath of Dr. R. J. Russell, charged with cruelty to animals. The accused was put in the lock-up until Tuesday morning, when he had a hearing before Squire Witmer. He admitted his guilt, whereupon fine of $10 and costs was imposed, which was paid and Mr. Sunday released. It is claimed the accused drove to town early Monday morning and tied his horse in the rear of Hotel O’Bold, where it remained until 9 o’clock that night, without food or water.
