Mr. Weikert and his son, Charles Weikert had a rather narrow escape. The family moved part of their goods from Gettysburg on Monday to their home and the two men stayed there for the night. About three o’clock they were awakened by dense smoke which filled the rooms. They hastily put on a few clothes and tried to save some of the goods but the flames had progressed so far that little was gotten out. The fire burned rapidly and nothing could be done to save the building which was burned entirely to the ground. Neighbors saw the blaze and went to the scene, but they too, could do nothing. Indications point strongly to incendiary origin. Insurance on property $250; on contents $150. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, September 18, 1909
