Berry died on Thursday Jan. 5th at his home at the toll-gate on the Carlisle pike at the edge of Hampton, rather suddenly from the effects of a stroke of paralysis, aged 68 years, 3 months and 26 days. Mr. Berry had charge of the toll-gate for a number of years and was widely known. He was honorable and upright in all dealings with his fellow man, a citizen that any community can feel proud of. He is survived by one son, E. H. Berry of Latimore township, and one daughter, Miss Mary F., who kept house for her father since the death of his wife which occurred 11 years ago. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Samuel Berry of Carlisle, William Berry of Hampton, Mrs. Sarah J. Hipple of Newville, Cumberland county, and Mrs. Rebecca McNure of Washington State. The funeral took place from his home Monday of last week, services being held in Hampton Reformed church and interment made in Hampton Union cemetery, Rev. Miller officiating.
