Bortner NEW OXFORD Cleo A. Bortner, 83, formerly of York, died Monday, January 31, 2005, at the Brethren Home Community in New Oxford. He was the husband of Hazel M. (Bell) Zumbrum Bortner who he married on June 11, 1988, and Anna Margaret (Crist) Bortner who died in 1985. Funeral service will be held Thursday at Irwin Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Spring Grove, with his pastor, the Rev. Mervin L. Wunderlich, officiating. He will be laid to rest at St. Paul's (Wolf's) Church Cemetery in West Manchester Township. Born November 27, 1921, in Glen Rock, he was a son of the late Allen Rohrbaugh and Lanta Marie (Shearer) Bortner. He was a 1938 graduate of the former Codorus Township High School. Mr. Bortner retired as a chemist at P.H. Glatfelter Company. He proudly served his country during WW II as a Corporal with the U.S. Army Air Corps, and was stationed in England. In addition to his wife, Hazel, Mr. Bortner leaves four stepchildren, C. Scott Zumbrum of York, Randy C. Zumbrum of Shrewsbury, Gregg E. Zumbrum of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Debra L. Shermeyer of Dover; four step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; a sister, Madeline L. Harbold of York; a stepbrother, Laverne Bortner of Spring Grove; two stepsisters, Ardella Schuchart and Anna Mae Case, both of York; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a stepsister, Geraldine Cosgrove.
