New Oxford, Sept. 28. – Following a prolonged illness of over one year from infirmities, Thomas Edwin Bower, an aged and well-known citizen of this place, passed away Monday night. He was aged 84 years, 5 months and 18 days. The deceased, a son of the late Thomas and Margaret Bower, was a life-long citizen of this section. In early life he conducted a warehouse, later he taught school for a long time and for many years was secretary of the Town Council. He was married May, 1882, to Miss Rebecca J. Feiser, of this place, who survives him with two sons, Willis P. Bower, of Philadelphia, and Chester A. Bower, of New Oxford; also by three daughters, Mrs. John Weaver, of Hanover; Misses Edna D. and Mary L. Bower, at home. Also eight grandchildren. The funeral was held this Thursday morning, services at the house, Rev. W. M. Allison, of the First Lutheran Church, of which the deceased was a member, officiating. Interment in the New Oxford cemetery. Adams County Independent, September 29, 1922
