Brough. Her aged was 87 years and 5 months. “Grandma Brough,” as she was familiarly known by a host of friends, was the daughter of Jacob and Nancy (Kaufman) Arnold. On January 17, 1850, she married Andrew Brough, of East Berlin. To this union where born two children, John H. Brough and Catharine Alice Brough. The daughter preceded her to the “Great Beyond” 23 years ago and her husband 15 years ago, since which time she resided in Hanover. One son and his family are the only direct descendants to them, she leaves the legacy of an abiding Christian faith. She was familiar with the Bible and its promises were very precious to her during life, and enduring to the end. Before sinking into a coma from which she never aroused, her last words on earth were to her son assuring him that she “was falling asleep in Jesus.” Her end was so peaceful that the watchers by her bedside could scarcely tell when the last vital spark fled. Funeral Thursday, July 3d, brief services at her late residence, No. 300 East Middle street, at 9 a.m., Rev. W. M. Wine, former President of Blue Ridge College, officiating. Interment and further services at Mummert’s Meeting house, near East Berlin. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, July 5, 1913
