Following a sickness of two days from the infirmities of old age, John Carbaugh, died Tuesday night at 12 o'clock, at the home of his son, John A. Carbaugh, 759 West King street, York. He was aged 93 years, four months and 24 days. He is survived by two sons and one daughter, John A. Carbaugh, York, at whose home he died; William H. Carbaugh, New Oxford; and Miss Sarah G. Carbaugh, Orchard street, Hanover. Fifteen grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren also survive. Despite his advanced years, Mr. Carbaugh gave the impression of a much younger man, being erect of posture and still agile on his feet. Until Saturday last he was able to be about the house, and only took to his bed on that day. Mr Carbaugh. was born at Mt. Rock on December 31, 1827, the son of William and Rosanna Leonard Carbaugh. He was born and raised on a farm, and for many years was a successful farmer. Later in life he started a brick yard at Berlin Junction, which he afterwards turned over to his son, W. H Carbaugh, who conducted the business until a short time ago, when it was discontinued. John Carbaugh served two enlistments during the Civil War each time receiving an honorable discharge. He was a lifelong Whig and Republican. He was Catholic in religion and attended services at Conewago chapel while a resident in that vicinity He was married to Miss Anastasia Staub who preceded him in death 21 years ago. For the past six months Mr. Carbaugh has made his home with his son in York. Prior to that time he resided with his daughter on Orchard street. Funeral Friday at 7:45 o'clock from 759 West King street, York, proceed to New Oxford with requiem high mass by the Rev. H. J. Howarth at 9 o'clock in the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
