A terrible accident occurred near Hann's Station, four miles east of this place, on Thursday morning last. Mr. Jacob Criswell, a farmer, residing near the Station, turned out among others, with his gun, to destroy a mad dog roaming through the neighborhood. Coming in sight of the dog, vigorous chase was wade, but he somehow disappeared. The party, fatigued, stopped a moment by a fence, Mr. Criswell leaning on the top rail, the gun resting against his body. The rail, being rotten, broke in two, and, by some singular fatality, one of the pieces struck the hammer of the gun, causing the discharge of the barrel, and the entrance of its entire contents into Mr. C's. left side, from which death resulted in about fifteen minutes. The terrible casualty occasioned general sadness throughout the neighborhood, and much sympathy is felt for the wife and large family of children thus so suddenly left to mourn the loss of a husband and father. The remains of the deceased were interred at Hunterstown on Saturday, a large number of relatives and friends attending.
