F. Freed, of York, was slightly hurt on Sunday evening about 6 o’clock when the automobile driven by the former was forced into the gutter, turned over and struck a pole about a mile west of Dallastown. The accident is said to have been caused by another machine traveling in the opposite direction at a rapid rate, which forced Dugan, who was driving, to turn his car sharply to the side of the road in order to avoid a collision. The car which forced Dugan off the road continued on its way without stopping to ascertain what damage had been done and its driver is unknown. Dugan was pinned beneath his car, a Ford touring, and his skull was fractured at the base of the brain and nose. Freed escaped injury except a slight cut on the finger. The funeral was held on Wednesday. The body was taken to the home of L. F. Freed, York, where there were short services, after which the funeral party proceeded to Mummert’s meeting house, near East Berlin, where the Dugans formerly resided, where concluding services were held and interment made in the church cemetery. He leaves his mother and brother, Harry, and two sisters, Grace and Emma. Adams County Independent – Friday, November 19, 1920
