Eckert, wife of the late Titus B. Eckert, died at her home in New Oxford, Tuesday afternoon, December 16th, aged 80 years, 1 month and 4 days. The deceased was a daughter of the late Dr. S. L. Swormstedt, of Westminster, Md., and was married to Mr. Eckert, of this place, in 1859, her husband being at that time editor of the “Hanover Gazette.” They resided in this place until 1862 when they removed to Westminster. In 1879 they removed to near White Hall, Adams county, and six years later took up their residence in New Oxford. Mrs. Eckert is survived by one daughter, Miss Margaret Augusta Eckert, and a son, Emerson L. Eckert, both of New Oxford; two brothers and two sisters, as follows: J. S. Swormstedt, Dr. L. B. Swormstedt, and Miss Mary V. Swormstedt, of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Margaret L. Smith, of Westminster, Md. There are also five grandchildren. Funeral Friday, Dec. 19. Services at the house at 1 p.m. Interment in the New Oxford cemetery. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, December 20, 1913
