Evans, one of the prominent colored residents of Gettysburg died from tuberculosis at his residence in Gettysburg on last Sunday morning aged 56 years. He was a graduate of Hampton University in the class of 1890 and lived for 29 years in Gettysburg where he conducted a restaurant during the greater part of that time. As chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. Paul’s A. M. E. Zion Church he was largely instrumental in raising sufficient funds to erect the new church. Besides his wife, Annie R. Evans, he leaves a number of relatives, including his mother, Mrs. Martha Evans Norton. Gettysburg Compiler – Saturday, February 28, 1920
