All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/adams/ _______________________________________________ James Hersh James Hersh was found dead in the office of his son, William Hersh, Esq., in Gettysburg, Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Death was caused by heart failure. His age was about 79 years. Deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Hersh, and he was born in New Oxford. During the Civil war he served for three years as Second Lieutenant in Company I, 87th Pa. Regiment. He was elected sheriff of Adams county about 1872, and since that time had resided in Gettysburg. Mr. Hersh was a man of pleasant demeanor, and was well known throughout Adams county. Besides his wife, he is survived by one, son William Hersh, Esq., a prominent attorney of Gettysburg. He is also survived by one brother, Paul Hersh, who is at the Soldier’s Home, Dayton, Ohio. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, August 10, 1912
