Hockensmith, 80, formerly of New Oxford, and recently of Hanover, died Monday, Oct. 27 at Hanover Hospital. Born November 27, 1922, he was the son of the late John L. and Marie (Little) Hockensmith, and the husband of Dorothy M. (Moore) Hockensmith. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II. Besides his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Frances M. Smith, Hanover; three sons, Leo W. Hockensmith Jr., and Robert E. Hockensmith, both of Aspers, and Bernard J Hockensmith, Gettysburg; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and one step great-grandchild. Pre-deceased by one granddaughter, Cheryl M. Smith; seven brothers, and one sister. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Oct. 31, Friday, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Rev. Daniel P. O'Brien as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
