Krug, one of Littlestown’s most prominent and respected citizens, died last Saturday morning, at 4:30 o’clock at his home on South Queen street. While Mr. Krug had been ill for quite a while, he had been confined to his bed but five weeks. The deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William V. Krug and was born in Oxford township, where he spent his early life on a farm. About forty-two years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Ann Ocker, of Carroll county. After his marriage he moved to Kingsdale where for thirty years he conducted a general store and warehouse, and for several administrations was the postmaster. Mr. Krug had a keen business instinct and good judgment, meeting with unusual success in the conduct of a country store. About seventeen years ago Mr. Krug disposed of his business in Kingsdale and moved to Littlestown where, with Mr. J. Augustus Smith, they purchased the old Fink & Shorb warehouse, remodeling it and adding a flour mill. For eight years they conducted this business when they sold out to local parties who formed a stock company. For the past ten years Mr. Krug has been living retired. The deceased was for many years a director of the Littlestown Savings Institution and at the time of his death was its vice president. He was also president of the Protection Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Recognized as a man of sound judgment his advice and counsel was repeatedly sought. Mr. Krug was aged 68 years, 7 months and 1 day. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Annie Study, and three sons, William Maurice, G. Milton and Joseph H. Krug, all of this place; eight grandchildren and four sisters and one brother: Mrs. Frank Kindig, Mrs. Abraham Grove and Miss Annie Krug, all of Union township; Mrs. Henry Menges, near New Oxford, and Daniel Krug, near Bittinger. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, from the house, Rev. H. C. Bergstresser, of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, officiating. Interment was made in Mt. Carmel cemetery. The pallbearers, fellow directors of the Littlestown Savings Institution, were: Maurice N. Wehler, R. A. Hartman, E. D. Buckey, A. P. Lippy, S. S. Mehring and James Kelly.
