Edward McPherson died at her residence on Carlisle street about 10 p.m. last Friday. Mrs. McPherson had been an invalid from nervous trouble for many years. A few days before her death new illness developed and with health to frail to combat it she rapidly sank until the end came. She was in her 73rd year. She was the daughter of John S. and Harriet Paxton Crawford of this place and a grand-daughter of Dr. William Crawford one of the pioneer settlers of the county who took an active and prominent part in the development of this section, and also a grand-daughter of Dr. Wm. Paxton who served Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church for 50 years. She was married to Hon. Edward McPherson in 1862. During his long service in Congress, Washington life had no attraction to her as compared with the home life in Gettysburg to which she devoted herself as wife and mother, neighbor and friend. The funeral was held on Monday, services being conducted by Rev. D. W. Woods Jr., paster of the Presbyterian church, of which church Mrs. McPherson had been a life long member, interment being in the Evergreen Cemetery. She leaves four sons and one daughter, John B. McPherson, Esq., of Boston, William L. McPherson of Washington, D. C., Norman McPherson of Pittsburg, Hon. Donald P. McPherson of this place and Mrs. David Dale of Bellefoute.
