He was a son of the late George and Mary Meckley. In 1865 he was married to Miss Mary Getts, who survives him with the following children: Mrs. Grant Deitrich and Mrs. Charles Deitrich, of Tyrone township; Wm. Meckley and Mrs. Daniel E. Bosserman, of Harrisburg; Mrs. Albert Cashman, of New Oxford; Mrs. John Biesecker, of Table Rock; Mrs. Wayne Rothenberger, of Palm, Montgomery county, and Mrs. Harvey S. Weidner, of Hanover. He is also survived by an only sister, Mrs. Lucy Eicholtz, of New Oxford. Mr. Meckley resided most of his life time in the section where he died. He was better known to many of those living there as “Squire” Meckley. He was elected Prothonotary in 1892 for a term of three years, and brought to the discharge of his duties a conscientiousness and a courtesy that made him popular with all having any business in his office. He was a member of the P. O. S. of A. of New Oxford, and also a director of the Farmers’ and Merchants’ Bank of New Oxford since the organization. Funeral from his late home on Friday, services by Rev. Luther Stauffer of the Lutheran Church, with interment in the New oxford Cemetery. Gettysburg Compiler – Saturday, February 28, 1920
