Myers died at his home in Missouri Valley, Iowa, on July 31. He was born near York Springs, June 7, 1845, and was the son of Anthony K. and Margaret C. (Wolford) Myers. He remained under the parental roof until September 1, 1864, when he enlisted in Company A, 209th Pennsylvania Volunteers and was assigned to the Army of the Potomac. He took part in the following engagements: Battle of Fort Steadman, Yellowhouse Landing, then on to Petersburg, and was at Appomattox Courthouse when Lee surrendered. He participated in the grand review of the armies at Washington, D. C. He was discharged at Alexandria, May 31, 1865, and then returned to his home in Pennsylvania, where he only remained a short time, and then went to selling fruit trees in Virginia, later went to Chicago where he was in the mercantile business for some time. Leaving Chicago he went to Guthrie county, Iowa, where he “hired” on a farm for nine months and then went to Missouri Valley. He went to the Black Hill country and traded with the Indians for a while and later settled down to farming. Willis A. Myers, of near York Springs, is a brother.
