Mr. John Noel, of Abbottstown, died suddenly Wednesday evening on the platform of a train between Abbottstown and East Berlin. Mr. Noel, who was a railroader all of his life, had gotten on the train at East Berlin to go home. He remained on the platform and when the train reached Abbottstown it was found that he had died between the two stations. Heart Disease is said to have been the cause of his death. He was 62 years of age. Mr. Noel is survived by his wife, one son, Samuel, and one daughter, Miss Ida Noel, living at home. One sister, Mrs. Levi Arentz, of Porters, also survives. Funeral Saturday. ****************************************************************************** The Gettysburg Times, Thursday, February 23, 1909, p. 1 ABBOTTSTOWN Abbottstown Feb 23 -- The funeral of John S. Noel, who died on the train while returning from his work on the repair gang last Wednesday evening, was held from his residence in the east end of town on Saturday afternoon. Interment in the Paradise Catholic cemetery. Rev. Fr. Crane officiated. Mr. Noel was chief burgess at the time of his sudden death. The members of the town council served as pall bearers. Deceased was aged 62 years.
