Shanefelter Miss Louisa Amarantine Shanefelter died Monday, Sept. 3, at the home of her niece, Mrs. Sophia Leek, No. 228 North Paca Street, Baltimore, Md. She was aged 71 years, 5 months and 20 days, The deceased, a daughter of Peter and Catharine Shanefelter, was born in Germany Township, Adams County, March 12, 1841. She was a member of the ancient family of Shanefelter, who emigrated to the United States about the year 1733 and settled in Berks County, Pa. For a number of years she resided at the home of her brother, William Shanefelter, in McSherrystown, and left about a year ago to take treatment at a private sanitarium at Catonsville, Md. She is survived by three brothers and one sister – William F. of 133 Main Street, McSherrystown, Pius M., of Brush Run and Mylesius E. in the West, and Mrs. Catharine Strock, of Fort Wayne, Ind. The funeral was held Thursday morning at 9 a.m. from St. Alphonsus Church, Baltimore, Md. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, September 7, 1912
