Slifer, an esteemed and prominent citizen of Littlestown, died Thursday morning at 5:15 o’clock from cancer, at the age of 70 years. For many years the deceased was identified with the business interests of Littlestown. During the past forty years he was engaged in the coal business, having established a large trade by a strict adherence to honesty and uniform courtesy. He was active in church affairs, having been trustee of St. Paul’s Lutheran church for many years. In politics he was a Democrat, and was elected by his party to the offices of Town Councilman and School Director at different times. The deceased is survived by his wife, whose maiden name was Miss Lizzie Howard, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Howard, of Littlestown; and one daughter, Mrs. Daniel Mehring, of Philadelphia. Funeral Monday, June 16th, services at his late home at 10 o’clock, Rev. J. J. Hill, of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, officiating. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, June 14 1913
