The cable of the lime car used in hauling stone up the incline broke and crashed down with full speed. At the foot of incline it struck Mr. Small, aged about ?8 years and injured him so severely that his death occurred two hours later. Jesse Dorsey, a colored man was at the bottom of the pit and was also struck and hurled a distance and there is little hope for his recovery. Jeremiah Small had been employed in the quarries for years and leaves a wife and several children. He is survived by two brothers, Daniel and David Small of Midway.
