Gettysburg compiler.: (Gettysburg, Pa.) 1866-1961: June 17, 1867
It is with more than ordinary feelings of sadness that we announce the sudden demise
of Mrs. Julia Ann Smyser, near the Hanover Junction, in this county, on Monday of
last week. Mrs S., while bringing in their cows, passed a neighbor's residence, Mr.
Glatfelter's, and when a short distance off, Mrs. Glatfelter heard a loud shriek, as
she thought from a woman, in the direction where Mrs. S. went. Going in pursuit, she
soon came to where Mrs. S. was, leaning against the fence. She was taken to her
home, and medical aid sent for, but she expired in a few minutes. The deceased was a
daughter of Reuben Reilly, deceased, who resided near this place, and where she was
raised. She was beloved by all who knew her, and her early and sudden death is much
lamented by all. Her age was 32 years, 3 months and 3 days. Mrs. Smyser was a sister
of Mr. Jacob Reilly, of this place.
