He was a son of the late Frederick Stockslager, of this county, and was born and grew to manhood on his fathers farm, in the southeran part of Mountjoy township. In the early 60s he removed with his family to Iowa, where he prospered in business and became quite wealthy. Several years ago while spending the winter in the south, he suffered a slight stroke of paralysis from the effects of which he never fully recovered. More recently he suffered also from nervous exhaustion and bronchial pneumonia, and his death was due to this complication of diseases. He was about 80 years of age. The remains were accompanied from the West by his widow, Mrs. Catharine M. Stockslager, who was a daughter of the late Henry Clutz, of Cumberland township, and a sister of Dr. Clutz, pastor of St. James Lutheran church, and also by his daughter, Miss Carrie Stockslager, and a grand-daughter, Miss May Stockslager, of Boone, Iowa. The other surviving members of the family are Dr. S. O. Stockslager, a prominent physician and surgeon of Boone, Iowa, and Mr. Alonza Stockslager, of Humphrey, Nebraska. The funeral services were conducted by Dr. T. C. Billheimer, of the Seminary. Gettysburg Compiler – Wednesday, March 8, 1905
