Tawney, a veteran of the Civil War and a well known resident of Gettysburg, died Feb. 13, aged 84 years, 9 months and 26 days. He served as a member of Company F, 87th Pennsylvania Volunteers, in the Civil War. Mr. Tawney was a native of Adams county and was a mason by trade. His wife, whose maiden name was Amanda McGonigal, died six years ago and he leaves five sons, John J., William, Edward, Frank and Harry Tawney, all of Gettysburg; two brothers, Jerry Tawney, of Mechanicsburg and John Tawney, of Montgomery. Peter D. Masenheimer is a son-in-law of the deceased, his wife having died about 10 years ago. Funeral Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from his late home.
