Topper John Henry Topper, a life-long citizen of Adams county died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mervin Beck, Maple avenue, West End, Saturday, Jan. 8, at 3:30 p.m. following an illness of a week from heart trouble, aged 59 years, 2 months and 25 days. The deceased was a son of James and Lucy Topper of Two Taverns, Adams county, where he was born and spent his early life. Thirty-seven years ago he was married to Miss Mary Carl, of Hanover. For several years Mr. Topper conducted a shoe repair shop in the building formerly occupied by Bert Stambaugh the barber, in Midway, adjoining the Myers store. He leaves his wife and three children, Emory Topper, of York; Roy H. Topper, of Hagerstown, and Mrs. Mervin Beck, with whom he made his home; also, his father, James Topper; three sisters, Mrs. Samuel Wherley, Mrs. Edward Stavely and Mrs. James Bair, of Two Taverns; three brothers, Andrew, George and Roland Topper, of near Gettysburg; two grandchildren, Evelyn and Donald Beck, of Midway. Funeral, Tuesday, Jan. 11th, services at the house at 10 a.m., Rev. I. M. Lau, of St. John’s Lutheran church, Littlestown, officiating. Interment in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
