He was taken sick about ten days previously with severe attack of influenza, which developed an enlargement of the heart and proved fatal. His death was a shock to his many friends, as he was robust and had every appearance of enjoying goodhealth. He had been conducting the eating restaurant opposite the court house for a number of years. He was considered one of the best cornet players of the town. He was one of the most active firemen of the Gettysburg Fire Company, among the first to get to the engine house upon every alarm. He proved a most efficient fireman at a number of the fires in this place and his good work won for him the position of foreman of the hook and ladder department, which he had held for many years. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon, the Firemen turning out in a body and escorting the hearse to the cemetery. Rev. Dr. Jacob A. Clutz conducted the services at the house and cemetery. He leaves a wife and two small children. --------------- Resolutions. Whereas, In the providence of our Allwise God our friend and brother fireman, S. A. Troxel, Foreman of the Hook and Ladder Truck of the Gettysburg Fire Department, has been called from his sphere of usefulness here to the realms on high, it is hereby recommended that the following minute be adopted to record the regret with which the announcement of his death was received and in recognition of the loss his relatives and this Company have sustained. Therefore be it Resolved, that while be bow with humble submission to the Divine Will in severing the ties which have endeared us to our departed member we mourn the loss of one who was a worthy and true member. Resolved, That his sympathetic heart, his many years of usefulness since his connection with the Company, his friendship, his generous acts and deeds are grateful memories which shall entitle his name to the fond recollections of the Brother Firemen of this Company. Resolved, That in his removal a faithful member is in a better world, and in the sorrow which has come to them his relatives have our heartfelt sympathy and prayer for the consolation of the Most High.
