All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/adams/ _______________________________________________ James Henry Welch was born in Adams county, Pa., May 28, 1838, and passed away at his home in Winterset, Iowa, on June 21, 1913, at the age of 75 years and 24 days. October 16, 1862, he was enrolled as a private in Co. G. 165th Regiment Pennsylvania Militia Infantry and was mustered out with his company at Gettysburg, July 20, 1863. In 1864 in Young America, Ind., he was united in marriage to Lydia Anne Fisher, who died November 24, 1890. Nine children were born to this union, one son dying in infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. Flora Hodgson, dying March 24, 1912. On July 16th, 1892, he was married to Mary Reece Snyder, who, with four daughters and three sons, mourns his death. Mr. Welch was honored and respected by all who knew him. The funeral services were held from the home in Winterset, Iowa, June 23, conducted by Rev. L. F. David, the G. A. R. using their burial service. Interment in the Winterset Cemetery.
