The sad news was received on Saturday by Past Commander Thad. L. Welty of Post 9, that the body of James S. Welty, lately one of our well known citizens, had been found in Chicago, supposed to have been drowned about two weeks ago, and asking for instructions. No particulars have yet been received by the family, but it is supposed that the deceased was the victim of four play, as neither money nor a valuable gold watch was found on his person. Mr. Welty left home Nov. 11th, as the advance agent of Captain Long's battle field lecture. One brief letter was received from him, and as nothing was heard subsequently his friends were naturally solicitous as to his welfare. Mr. Welty was born here and has resided her the greater portion of his lifetime, and had many generous traits of character and warm friends to whom he was always true. In 1862 he enlisted in the 15th Penna. Cavalry and served throughout the war in the Western armies, not returning until the war closed. Since the war he has been an active member of Post 9, G. A. R., and later of the Veteran Loyal League. His remains left Chicago yesterday at 3 o'clock P. M., and are expected to arrive here to-day. The funeral will take place tomorrow, but the time has not yet been fixed. Star Sentinel, Tuesday evening, January 7, 1890
