All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/adams/ _______________________________________________ John William Winand, 75, former councilman and tax collector and a highly respected resident of New Oxford, died at 10:50 o'clock Tuesday morning at his home following an illness of several weeks from complications. He was born in York Springs, a son of the late Frederick and Amanda Winand, but had resided in New Oxford the greater part of his life. In his earlier life Mr. Winand was a miller. Up to the time of his last illness, he was employed at the E. C. Livingston shoe factory, New Oxford. He was a member of the First Lutheran church, New Oxford, and also belonged to Hebron lodge 465, Free and Accepted Masons, New Oxford, and the New Oxford camp, 22 P.O.S. of A. Mr. Winand is survived by his widow, whose maiden name was Miss Theresa Ehrhart, and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Elsie M. Livingston, New Oxford; Fred E. Winand, Darby; Miss M. Kathryn Winand, New Oxford; Miss Ella A. Winand, Baltimore; Mrs. H. E. Eyster, York. Three brothers and one sister also survive: Walter and E. E. Winand, both of East Berlin; C. E. Winand, New Chester, and Mrs. Charles Zartman, York Springs. Funeral services from the home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. George E. Sheffer, New Oxford, officiating.
