All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/adams/ _______________________________________________ Melchoir Wolf, who died in Mountpleasant township, on Friday the 30th, inst., was born in Germany, on the 21st day of April, 1814, and was aged 85 years, 11 months and 9 days. He emigrated to America with his parents, George and Margaret (Kinster) Wolf in the year 1833. The family, consisting of the parents and seven children, landed in Baltimore on the 20th day of April, 1833. They came to Gettysburg in the same year and settled in the vicinity of this place, where the parents died. The original family, George, Michael, Maria, Dorothy and Melchoir are now dead. Margaret (Wolf) Gerrich is living near Littlestown and although 91 years old she is quite active and able to attend to her household duties. Christian (Wolf) Stouffer is living at Taneytown, Md., at an advanced age. Melchoir Wolf is survived by his wife and three children, Ella, Henry and Alice, all of whom are married. He was a kind husband, a loving father, a good citizen and neighbor, always willing and ready to befriend the needy and will be missed in the community in which he lived. For years he was a confirmed invalid, being confined to bed during much of this time. He bore his sufferings with great fortitude and long before his death expressed his willingness to be at rest. When asked by the writer of this sketch, whether he was ready to go, he siad. "I am ready" using the words of the Master, "Come unto Me all that labor and are heavy laden and I will give ye rest." The interment was made at St. Luke's church cemetery, Rev. Mann officiating. New Oxford Item, April 3, 1900
