Somehow, I ended up with the bible from the Campbell side of my family. I received it from my mom Rose Marie Campbell Alexander, who got it from her parents, Matthew F. and Helen Konvolinka Campbell. Matthew's parents, Nicholas and Margaret McInerney Campbell, brought it to the US when they came here in 1883. Nicholas and Margaret made the passage from Ireland with their eldest daughter, Mary (1882-?). My grandfather, Matthew F. Campbell was born May 5, 1884 in Hillsdale, Indiana County, PA. By 1900 the family had settled in Allegheny county, and had grown to include eight children. The bible is quite fragile. Most of the pages are heavily discolored and chipping apart at the edges. The entries are in three and possibly four different hands, ranging from formal copperplate to crude cursive/italic. Some of the entries are in sepia ink, others are in pencil and others are in pencil overlaid with sepia or black ink. The entries aren't in chronological order- most likely, each entry was put down on the least written on page. ********* The NEW TESTAMENT OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST pub: Robert and Daniel Read, Belfast. 1854 (page) The Lord have Mercy apon my dear Brother Nicholas Campbell who departed this life the 9th day of April 1861 at 10 minutes past four oclock P.M. the lord god grant his Soul reast and pace Campbell the lord have mercy the soul Betty Campbell who departed the life March 7th 1882 (illegible) past 4 oclock (illegible) (page) Terence Campbell paid the Reverent Father McCartan For Saying a mass for my dear Brother Nicholas apon the 15th of sept 1861 The lord have mercy upon the Soul of Ellen Campbell who died the 25th day of March 1887 in West Moreland Co America at si(illegible) oclock am.
