His paternal grandfather, James Douglass, was a native of this county and his parents were among the pioneers of Elizabeth township. He had five brothers: Thomas Douglass, Samuel Douglass, Andrew Douglass, John Douglass, and William Douglass. His wife was Mary E Drenen by whom he had seven children: Robert Douglass, John Douglass, Thomas Douglass, Mary E Douglass (Mrs William Caldwell), David Douglass, William Douglass and James Douglass. He was a carpenter, and Thomas, his third son by occupation a farmer is now a resident of Elizabeth township. He (Thomas) married Lydia C Peairs, daughter of Elisha Peairs and Sarah Wycoff Peairs, early settlers of Elizabeth township, and by her had five children: Elisha P Douglass, Mary E Douglass, Sarah J Douglass (Mrs J B Billick), James D Douglass (deceased), and David P Douglass. Elisha P Douglass was raised in Elizabeth township and educated at the Univeristy of Wooster, Ohio. He began the study of law in November, 1878, with Major R E Stewart of Pittsburgh; was admitted to the Allegheny county bar February 20, 1880, and in November of the same year located in McKeesport where he has since resided with offices both in that borough and in Pittsburgh. Mr Douglass married August 24, 1880, Elvira P Weddell, daughter of Peter Weddell and Elizabeth McClelland Weddell, of Elizabeth township and has two sons: Howard Weddell Douglass and Earle LeRoy Douglass. Mr Douglass is a member of the United Presbyterian Church, has just served a term as councilman of his ward in McKeesport of which body he was elected chairman in 1888. He is a member of the board of directors of the People's bank of McKeesport, is solicitor for that institution, and also assistant solicitor for the McKeesport & Belle Vernon railroad company. In politics he is a democrat.
