PETER'S CHURCH, SOUTH SIDE, PITTSBURGH. In it are many names of parishioners from 1874-1924. The booklet once belonged to my great grandmother, Anna Steigerwald Schmitt. She was married to Wendlin Schmitt and had eight children: Catherine, Francis (Frank), Charles, Edward, Theresa, Joseph, Anna, and Leo. Anna Steigerwald moved to Baton Rouge, La with her daughter in 1922. Although she was not in Pittsburgh at the time of the Golden Jubilee she did have this copy and it has remained in my family. The booklet focuses on the Golden Jubilee, but there are many references to the Silver Jubilee, which was held in 1896. There are also names of some of the first parishioners (1874). So within this old and tattered booklet there are 50 years of names. Names were extracted from the following sections in the book. Please note, some list were from 1874, the establishment of the parish; some were from Silver Jubilee 1896; and some were from the Golden Jubilee 1924. This booklet was printed by Colonial Press, Pittsburgh, Pa. In the Golden Jubilee Book St.Peter's Book there is a section about the Silver Jubilee, which was held in 1896. Various committees were named along with the members of those committees. The Decoration Committee consisted of the following people: Andrew Bachner, Joseph Dieterle, Otto Planitzer, and Charles Guthoerl. Souvenir and publicity committee: Nicholas Satter, Frank Muensterman, and Frederick Thiele. Reception committee: John Wolf, Martin Scherf and Andrew Stoecklein. Andrew Bchner was marshall of the parade preceding the celebration in the church. The banquet committee was composed of Nicholas Satter, Frank Muensterman, Joseph Dieterle, and Ott Planitzer. John Wolf was toastmaster. The feast was inaugurated by a procession of the clergy a nd the various church societies. Foremost among the latter were two companies, A and E of the uniformed Knights of St. George, led by Captain George Kunkel and Lieutenant Captain Felix Michalowski. The following ladies took and active part in the preparation of the banquet and served the guests: Mrs. Pauline Sauter, Mrs. Mary Winter, Mrs. Catherine Leibold, Mrs. Margaret Singer, Mrs. Magdalena Werries, Mrs. Dorothea Schmitt, Mrs. Theresa Kampmeyer, Mrs. Lena Schmidt, Mrs. Charlotte Thiele, Mrs. Johanna Lang, Mrs. Mary Backes, Mrs. Helen Dieterle, and the Misses Barbara Wolf, Gertrude Christian, Mary Sauter, Mary Roeder, Anna Schneider, and Rose Steibel. At this time only two of the venerable founders of the parish still lived, namely, John Wolf and Martin Scherf.
