All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: David Zimmerman zimmerman409@charter.net January 25, 2009, 4:28 pm Revolutionary War Widow's Pension W-8225 State of Pennsylvania County of Allegheny On this 17th day of April 1849 personally appeared before me Samuel Jones a Judge in and for said County Margaret Jordon res - ident of Plumb Township in said County aged 93 years, who being first duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act 17th June 1844 & the Act 2nd February 1848. This declarant states that she is the widow of James Jordon deceased who was a soldier in the revolution and who drew a pension from the United States at the rate of 30$ per annum and who died in said County of Allegheny on the fifteenth (15th) day of March in the year eighteen hundred and forty four (1844). This declarant further states that her maiden name was Margaret Armstrong and that she was married to the said James Jordon in the year seventeen hundred and eighty eight (1788) by a Presbyterian Clergyman named William McBennan that said marriage took place at the house of the said McBennan in the County of New Castle and State of Delaware near by the line of Chester County State of Pennsylvania. This declarant states that from the time of her aforesaid marriage to the perio - d of her husbands death she lived with him in lawful wedlock and had children born – three of whom were born prior to the 1st January 1794 – whose names are John, Ephraim, & Margaret Jordon. This declarant further states that there was a family record of her marriage and births of her children at one time in existence, but that it has been lost or destroyed, and she has now no record either of her Marriage with the said James Jordon or of the birth of children she had by him. This declarant further states that there were several witness present at the ceremony of her marriage with the said James Jordon, all of whom as this dec -larant supposes are now dead. This declarant further states that after her aforesaid marriage she resided near to the New London Crossroads in the County of Chester & State of Pennsylvania for a period of ten years and about the year 1798 she with her said husband removed from the said County of Chester to the Coun -try where she now resides. This declarant further states that since the death of her said husband she has not again married but remains his widow. Sworn and subscribed the day } her and year first above written } Margaret x Jordon Before me mark S. Jones State of Pennsylvania County of Allegheny Ss - I certify that by reason of old age & body infirmity the above named Margaret Jordon is unable to appear in Open Court – And I further certify that satisfactory evidence was adduced before me that the said James Jordon died on the fifteenth day of March in the year eighteen hundred & forty four (1844), and that since that time the above named Margaret Jordon has not again married. S. Jones I Hiram Hultz Prothonotary of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the County of Allegheny and Commonwealth of Penna do certify that I signed before whom the above Dec and following affidavit -laration and Certificate ^ acknowledged was at the time thereof and now is one of the Associate Judges of the said Court and duly authorized by law to take such acknowledgements and taken the above to be his signature.
