Dallas Esq'r President and his associate judges of the Court of Common Pleas in and for the county of Allegheny and state of Pennsylvania aforesaid George Potts a resident of Pittsburgh in the county and state aforesaid aged eighty three years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed June 7 1832 That he enlisted in the army of the United States in the year (blank) with (blank) and served in the (blank) regiment of the Pennsylvania line under the following named officers This declarant deposeth and saith that by reason of old age and the consequent loss of memory he cannot swear positively as to the place or time of his enlistment or the precise time or period of service but according to the best of his knowledge and recollection is as follows That the declarant enlisted in the year 1780 as a private soldier in a riffle company commanded by Captain Jacob Livergood in the town of Reading Berks County Pennsylvania about four months after the said company was marched to Philadelphia and the declarant remained with the said company as a private soldier during the term they were stationed at a garrison some distance above Philadelphia on the Delaware river during winter a period of about six months after which period the said company was marched to the garrison at Fort Pitt and was stationed at the point or junction of the river Allegheny and Monogahala? at which place the said company remained stationed upwards of six months in the same company then commanded by the said Captain Livergood during which time at Fort Pitt the said company was attached to the regiment commanded by Col. John Gibson after which period the said declarant and company was marched back under the command of said Captain to the garrison above Philadelphia when the said company was first stationed after his enlistment and after remaining stationed at the said garrison for a period of six months or upwards the said company was marched to the State house in Philadelphia and then this declarant received an Honorable written discharge from the said Captain Livergood which discharge was afterwards burnt about four or five years after about four or five miles above Pittsburg at the time the Indians burnt the declarants house and the best of the declarants recollection he was discharged some time in the year 1782 and remained and was an enlisted soldier in the Contential service in the Pennsylvania line for a period of two years or thereabouts He hereby relinquishes every claim whatsoever to a pension or an annuity except the present and he declares that his name is not on any the pension roll of any agency in any state George (his x mark) Potts Sworn to and subscribed this} day and year aforesaid } James Logan I James Logan Prothanitary? of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County and state aforesaid do hereby certify that the foregoing contains the original proceedings of the said court in the matter of the application of George Potts for a pension In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal of office this 7th day of June AD 1837 James Logan This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 4.1 Kb
