Tindall, U.S. Navy, were committed to the sea in accordance with your wishes. The cremated remains were brought to the ship on 21 October, 1994, while in port at Naval Station San Diego, California. We departed on 25 October, 1994 en route to our oversees deployment in the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans, demonstrating out nation's commitment to the freedom of the seas. As your husband spent many years in service to his country, it was a fitting choice that he be committed from the deck of a proud ship so employed. The burial at sea ceremonies took place on the ship's flight deck on 26 October 1994, at 1115 hours. Conforming to Naval tradition, the ship was stopped, colors were displayed at half mast, and the participating officers & crew were paraded in dress uniform. The morning was cool, with a 70 degree temperature and slight winds and seas from the southwest. Under these favorable conditions, both the religious and military ceremonies were conducted with dignity and solemnity. The ship's Executive Officer, LT Donald E. Davis, Jr., U.S. Naval Reserve, committed the remains to the sea. A seven- man rifle squad, under the command of our Ordnance Officer, LTJG Michael Buchanan, U.S. Navy, rendered a 21-gun salute, after which the urn bearers, Honor Platoon and assembled Ship's Company observed a moment of silence in honor of your husband. A video tape of the ceremony was taken and is enclosed. Also included with the video tape are a cartridge from each of the three volleys of the rifle salute, a chart excerpt showing the location of the ship at the time of the committal, and the burial flag used during the ceremony. The officers and crew of the USS JARRETT are proud and honored to have been privileged to render this final rite for our fellow service member. On behalf of a grateful nation, please accept my personal warm regards and sincerest sympathy during this time of great loss. Sincerely, T. J. Moyseowicz, Commander, U.S. Navy Commanding Officer NOTE: DON R TINDALL 09 Feb 1920 05 Aug 1994 (Lake Havasu City, Mohave, AZ) 162-18-4287 Pennsylvania This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 2.8 Kb
