All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Laura Demse ldemse@alltel.net January 17, 2006, 10:37 am McKeesport, PA - THE DAILY NEWS Tuesday Evening Edition November 16, 1920 Duquesne Man Instantly Killed In Versailles Early Today Truck is Demolished at Juniper Street Crossing John Lukacs, aged about 39 years, of 807 Kahler Street, Duquesne, was almost instantly killed at 7:45 o'clock this morning when his coal truck was struck by a light B & O engine at the Juniper Street crossing in Versailles borough. The truck was demolished and Mr. Lukacs' head was badly crushed and his right leg broken. The victim of today's fatal accident has been engaged for some time in the coal and ice business, but lately has been hauling coal for the State Road Coal Company. His truck was loaded with coal when the accident occured this morning. Wreckage of the truck and coal was scattered along the railroad tracks for some distance. Lukacs was carried into the hospital at the galvanizing works in Versailles, but he lived only a few seconds. The body was removed to Volk's undertaking rooms and prepared for burial. He was a native of Hungary, but had resided in this country for the past 21 years, and in Duquesne, PA for 16 years past. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Lukacs and by four sons and three daughters, the oldest being 13 years and the youngest two weeks. The funeral will be held on Thursday, with interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Duquesne. Deputy Coroner John Cavanaugh was here today to take proof of identity.
