A room-mate who made the discovery, found on the table a note addressed to himself and signed by Shane, whic read as follows: "When you read this my troubles will all be over. I have taken enough morphine to insure my death. Julia still refuses to marry me, and without her I have no desire to live." A physician was summoned and after two hours of labor succeeded in reviving the dying man. Shane resisted the attempts to save his life and protested that he was wearied with the world and would kill himself whether or no. The Julia whose refusal to marry him caused Shane to evince such despondency is a pretty little chambermaid employed in the hotel. Shane fell in love with her some time ago, and they were engaged to be married. A month ago they had a quarrel and Julia broke the engagement. Shane moped about the house, and two weeks ago went to bed literally love-sick, The attempt to end his life to-day is the fourth within a week.
