She had been a sufferer with ailments due to old age for nearly two years past and her death was not unexpected. Mrs. Altmeyer was born on September 29, 1817, and was consequently over 82 years of age. For a number of years she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Stinner, and was a consistent Christian lady, serving her Creator in the German Catholic faith. Mrs. Altmeyer is survived by seven children, namely, Mrs. Barbara Stinner and Mrs. Mary Flaus, of Duquesne; Mrs. Catherine Nagle, of East End, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Margaret Stone, of Louisville, Ky.; Mrs. Lizzie Dewar, of California, Pa.; George Altmeyer, secretary of the McKeesport Republican city committee, and Jacob Altmeyer, also of this city. The funeral will take place on Tuesday. Requiem high mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph's German Catholic church, on West Grant Avenue, Duquesne, at 9 a.m., and the remains will be laid to rest in St. Mary's cemetery, McKeesport, at a later hour. An interesting history is connected with the early life of Mrs. Altmeyer in McKeesport, particularly with regard to church work. When St. Peter's church, on Market Street, was founded, she was one of the leaders in the movement, and to her much of the credit in the establishing of the church was due. Later the German Catholics separated from St. Peter's and Mrs. Altmeyer joined the German church. She was a well known and highly respected lady and at the time of her death was connected with St. Joseph's church, of Duquesne. McKeesport Daily News, January 27, 1900, page 1
